Naphon CA400 Audio Amplifier Already own it? Write a review

I am no expert but have owned several amplifiers over the years of varying quality . I recently acquired a CA-400 2nd hand but hardly used very cheap.
I connected it to my beloved Rotel RA-870 BX pre-amp
and wired my pair of 250 watt RMS speakers to the
CA-400 power amplifier which promptly delivered
Tons of power to the speakers with crisp , clear sound .
I would be interested to have it tested to see if it actually
meets it's claimed 700w RMS in bridged mode but I have
no question about its claimed THD of 0.05 .
I think my CA-400 is an excellent addition to my sound system . Quite a refined Beast !

PROS: Solid, well-built, durable Player/Recorder. Easy to learn menu function. Nice soft touch buttons.
CONS: No external audio output provided apart from the headphone plug-in connector.
Unit has no audio input adjustment!. The Audio record input reference meter level on the unit starts at -5 decibels!!! Hence audio input levels from the source has to be set at high levels to be able to register on the audio meters installed on the unit. Thus input audio levels below -5decibels wont register on the audio meters. And its difficult to monitor low audio input comfortably with headsets. Headsets has to be turned up at the almost maximum setting to be able to hear the input audio. This is a major design flaw which seem to be corrected in later models.
Not all 2.5" hard drives will work with the unit. You will have to check the listings.
The Datavideo HDR-45 would have been excellent IF audio input adjustment settings were provided and the audio meters on the unit were set at probably -40 decibels for monitoring.

Using it for 12 years. Still my favourite player with super sound quality. Suitable for most after market speaker.You no need amp if your speaker below 90rms. Of cos sound better if add amp. But not so much different. Wasting money only if add amp. New pioneer headunit sound so electronic for me. I like analog digital sound. Hope can use forever.

Ten years ago I reviewed this just after I received it. I can report that the battery is still going strong after all those years! Of course am assuming it's the same battery technology as the one I bought a decade ago. Great value and performance.

I thought I'd write this in case people are considering picking these up on the used market. If you are, don't hesitate! This is a fantastic little beast. It's quite heavy for its size, with a beautiful brushed aluminium face and machined aluminium knobs. You can feel the quality. Everything is conveniently located and the are several analogue inputs on the back. Hook it up to a PC or streaming device like the Google Chromecast Audio and you're in for a treat. I paired this with some Athena S.5's and the sound is magic. Very clear and detailed. Plenty of power for a small room and utterly enjoyable. I originally bought to resell but I won't be doing that!

I can confirm the noise gate, and is annoying. Also, proper earthing (separate lead) is required for hum-free audio. Would not recommend it, despite the lower price point.
