We have two of these and are happy with the picture quality. Even had TV ad footage on national television looking better than many of the other ads I have seen. Great image stabilizer and improved sensor in low light from the HXR 1000. Improved on of switch also and lasting for more than 100 shoots now.

Only criticism I have is that I miss the audio level indicator on the screen and the zebra lines. The foot for the light in front on the handle is also too flimsy. Would like bigger screws fastening it.

Both have paid for themselves many times over at weddings, corporate shoots and even game farm productions.

I would not call this camera professional, however it is worth the money. Picture quality is great, sound is OK, note there is no Audio input control and even more strange there is no audio level indicator.
The smooth cam is excellent, but the still picture quality is not useable for even small prints.
The on screen menu is too fiddly and to small. The eye piece view finder does not come out of the side enough, making it feel uncomfortable to use and impossible if you're wearing headphones. Although at first glance it looks the part, the cheap plastic makes it feel less convincing. I can see this camera being used by enthusiast but certainly not professionals.
