best price
By Blakey
from Lorne, Victoria on
I was keen from the start to have a af100, but I was reasonably satisfied with the hmc152, although a little soft in sharpness, but the af100 is a much better unit, similar menu layout and functions which has made for a easy transition. Read plenty of reviews and kept an eye on the price. Once ordered delivery was prompt. About the only thing missing is a P2 version(avc intra enabling 10Bit 4 2 2). Hence the price. As attatching an external recorder is about the same cost as the cam body! So a second af100 would seem logical for colour matching, the quality of the codec is that good. But its not a run & gun unit, unless purposely set up. The best things about this cam is its micro 4/3 MOS sensor, ISO range, interchangable lenses(perfect for the GH 2 DSLR that I just got), SDI HD & HDMI, 108024p and variable frame rate. ND dial is a nice touch but awkward position. If you have worked with film cameras then you'll appreciate the af100.

My biggest disappointment is the MXF file that is not compatible with most editing platforms. You need to convert it to an editable file, otherwise you are stuck. Not suitable for low end amateur like myself. But overall good camcorder.

These tapes work the best in all my video cameras I use for my Outdoor TV show and weddings.
I get very little fall out or non at all. Plus they play back perfectly where some of the other company tapes don't.

Great for Hammond & Leslie
By Brendoon
from Christchurch, New Zealand on
This is the second of these I've bought, completing a matched pair for leslie recording.
Normally a leslie requires three dynamic mics to close mic the horns in stereo and the bass rotor in mono.
Placing these a couple of feet back from the amp perfectly captures both upper and lower rotors, no need for close mic'ing.
The mic also performed VERY well for a narration vocal. The best mic I've had in fact, and at a cheaper price than run of the mill dynamic mics like the shure SM57, giving a much truer representation of tone too.
I wish GlobalMedia had a suitable shock mount in the same price range though!

Needed some mics for a small school radio/recording room. Initially I was deciding between this mic with the behringer due to the low price. I was happy that I decided on this ones. The built was rigid and tough. Very good quality in sound reproduction. It could be a all rounded mic. The sound quality and clarity is definitely on the higher range calibre. Would I buy this again? You bet.

Supplements my NEX-VG10 perfectly.A great field camera for guerilla style doco making. Heaps of features- a bit of a learning curve on manual controls. Super light - great long days of shooting. Focal length of lens a bit short for long shots. About to take it into cyclone season in the Pacific and really put it through its paces.

this tripod is excellent and just what i was looking for.
I was a long time used to the trop on camera plate, which is great. On this tripod it is a slide in plate, so i have to get use to this system.
This tripod is doing an excellent job. Nothing to complain.
Nice quality! E-Image, please keep it this way.

Big, cheap, easy to use
By Dodge57
from Brisbane, Australia on
I have just shot my first HD wedding video with the MDH1. I am very happy with the image quality, which compares very favorably with footage from my faithful Sony MiniDV camera. I used a 16Gb SDHC card which allowed four hours of shooting at HX (third highest) resolution.
The camera doesn't really sit properly on my shoulder, mainly due to the eye piece design, but it's not a major problem due to the very low weight. The five hour battery actually gives about three hours of stop-start recording and it's not possible to recharge the battery while the camera is using the AC power supply.
For weddings, you'll need to buy a decent shotgun microphone as the supplied external mike is not directional and is greatly effected by touching the camera cases. The combination optical/electronic image stabilizer works brilliantly, and the second accessory shoe is very handy for a video light. The convenience of non-linear recording allows you to review any scene by touching its thumbnail on the LCD screen.
The supplied HD Writer AE 2.5S software will allow you to organise and trim your clips and author your video to DVD, but has no audio capabilities, such as adding a music track. If you intend to buy a video camera which records in AVCHD format, you will need an aftermarket editing program from Pinnacle, VideoStudio etc.
Overall, I'm happy with the MDH1. It's the modern day equivalent of the Panasonic MS-4 from the early nineties: Big, cheap, reliable and robust.

Canon XF300 HD Camera

I have made a number of purchases through Globalmediapro. Their communication is excellent and the camera arrived within 4 days of payment, well done!
Love the camera. I have been using the Canon XHA1 for the past few years and have always been impressed with Canons image quality. The Canon XF-300 is no exception and is the next logical step to tapeless acquisition. I spent a few months investigating different camera options with the Sony EX-1 being the nearest rival worth consideration within a similar price range. From the many reviews on YouTube and Vimeo to me the XF-300 seemed to have the edge in quality and certainly had the functionality I was looking for. Having now used the XF-300 for a few days I couldn't be happier with the results. Image is clean and sharp and have been able to replicate the scene files from the XHA1 to achieve a similar look that I was using. Having got used to using the XHA1 switching to the XF-300 was easy and got to understand it functionality and workflow in just a few hours. I will keep the XHA1 for two camera applications now that the scene files have been duplicated.
This camera is slightly bigger and heavier than the XHA1 due to the huge lens, but most of my videos are tripod lockdown shots with minimal handheld applications anyway. The EX-1 is smaller and lighter. All the most essential buttons are placed on the outside of the camera with just a handful needing to get into the menu to turn on. Everything about this camera is professional and will serve my needs for a few years to come.
My only dislike is the damn on/off switch. What was Canon thinking with such a stupid design. It works fine but you need to be very careful to not switch from record direct to media playback mode with off being in-between the two. This is not a deal breaker but took me a while to get used to. There are some things missing on the camera that I would have liked but can work my way around these using other techniques, so all in all I am very happy with this Camera. A bonus is being able to use all my batteries from the XHA1.
